The Smithy as it stood before renovations began.
The Smithy has been purchased for the village of Mawnan Smith on October 19th 2006 after four years of fund raising and red tape.
The builders Condy and Hooper have been appointed as the main building contractors.

The huge task of sorting the valuable historical Smithy tools and equipment from the pure junk is a formidable one. All the usable and reclaimable tools have had their position logged and have been stored in ammunition boxes. Usable equipment, fittings and cabinets are being removed for careful storage. The Trustees and willing helpers have have battled through decades of accumulated dirt and grime to expose the bare bones of the building for restoration.
